In the past few months, several high-level governmental decisions have been made that (in my opinion) indicates the United States is in a death spiral. Unless there is a miraculous turnaround in the near future, it will soon be time to transfer America to hospice care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA, the leading cause of deaths in the US is heart disease followed by cancer. Doctors around the world agree that the most common prevention to heart disease is reduce stress, don’t smoke, exercise regularly, and watch your diet. In other words, we should guard our heart above all else.
The Bible says:
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
Some may feel the spiritual heart is different from the physical heart. But I ask you, is it different? Just as the physical heart spews forth life, so does the spiritual heart.
As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. Proverbs 27:19 NIV
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Luke 6:45 NIV
The heart defines who we are. Christians have strong beliefs about the heart. The heart is where Christ makes His home (John 14:23 & Ephesians 3:16-17), and where God’s Spirit dwells (Romans 8:9-11 & 1 Corinthians 3:16-17). The heart determines our receptivity and our responsiveness toward God (Deuteronomy 30:6 & Ezekiel 11:19-20). It’s the center of our worship (Jeremiah 32:39 & Psalm 86:12). It defines, shapes, and “determines the course of our life” (Proverbs 4:23).
The Bible clearly shows us how to prevent heart disease. “Pay attention” and “listen carefully” to God’s Word. Let His words “penetrate deep into your heart,” for God’s word brings life and healing to our entire body (Proverbs 4:20-22).
Many Christians understand the importance of memorizing scripture as a means of preventing heart disease. King David said in Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you”.
The battle in the world today is a battle between good and evil. Jesus says “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.“ John 10:10 NIV.
I can remember starting each day in school with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I emphasized the word “indivisible” because, sadly, America is not indivisible. America is a nation divided because heart disease has caused this great nation to lose its moral compass. The Apostle Paul spoke about a battle in the heavenly realm.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:10-18, NIV)
Can America’s moral compass be restored? Can America’s death spiral be stopped? I believe it can. It is time for Christians to pray boldly for America’s restoration. It is time for Christians to stand firm on the foundation that made America great It is not too late.
2 Chronicles 7:14 is just as appropriate today as it was in the Old Testament days.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I am believing it is time to for America to become a great nation again. Pastor John Hagee, founder and Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas recently offered this prayer:
Send us the rain! Send us your mercy! There are still righteous among us. Heal our land! Preserve us, Father! Go before us to make a way and behind us as our rear guard. In a world that has lost its moral compass, our only hope is YOU!
Will you stand in agreement with me by making this your prayer of restoration?
Thanks for stopping by, y’all come back now.
