The Gap

Romans 12:2 – Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I can remember when corporate prayer was a daily exercise in my school. In 1962, corporate prayer was taken out of public schools. Fifty-three years later, two generations do not know the joy of corporate prayer in public school.

In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized unrestricted abortion. 57,762,000 abortions have occurred since. Based on 2012 data, that is the equivalent of the population of California and New York combined.

Homosexuality is now called “an alternative lifestyle” instead of an abomination in the sight of Almighty God, and most recently, the Supreme Court of the US permits same-sex couples the same rights to marriage as heterosexual couples. The US is the 21st country to legalize same-sex marriage. CNN reports:

The decision affirmed growing public support in the U.S. for gay marriage, with about two-thirds of Americans now in favor.

Rather than focus on spiritual truth, many American churches and Christians have become desensitized to sin as a result of continued compromise with the world. We have allowed the evil one to deceive us with his subtle schemes and demonic teachings.

The Apostle Paul tells the new Christians at Galatia they are called to be free. He warns them to not use that freedom to indulge the flesh. (Gal 5:13, 16). He further tells them that by walking by the Spirit, they would not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Finally at the end of Galatians 5, Paul provides a list of characteristics related to one who lives in the Flesh and one who lives in the Spirit.

Characteristics of one who lives in the flesh:(Gal 5:19-21).

  • sexual immorality
  • impurity and debauchery
  • idolatry and witchcraft
  • hatred
  • discord
  • jealousy
  • fits of rage
  • selfish ambition
  • dissensions
  • factions
  • envy
  • drunkenness
  • orgies, and the like.

Characteristics of one who lives in the Spirit: (Gal 5:22-23)

  • love
  • joy
  • peace
  • forbearance
  • kindness
  • goodness
  • faithfulness
  • gentleness
  • self-control

Which of these characteristics do you see in the movies and televisions today? Where does the hatred that is seen in our society come from? From the beginning of time, Satan has crafted a message that it is OK to live on the edge. He deceived Eve to eat the very fruit that God forbade. (Gen 3:1-6) And Satan still deceives people today.

Think about my opening verse from Romans 12:2. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Christians live in the world but should not be conformed by the world. Christians should not behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards. Instead Christians should behave according to Godly principles or standards. The only way this can be done is by allowing the Holy Spirit to transform the mind to Godly standards.  Today, too many Christians and churches are conforming to the world. Too many Christians and churches have followed the steps of the Church in Ephesus (Rev 2:1-7) who lost their first love.

Are you ready to get back on track? It’s easy.

  1. Get on your knees and tell God you are ready to get back on track, serving Him.
  2. Begin praying for your family first. Pray for your spouse, then your children.
  3. Teach your children how to pray and serve Jesus – before someone teaches them how to serve themselves.
  4. Conduct a spiritual house blessing.
  5. If you are not active in a church that preaches and teaches Biblical truth, find one that does and get active there.

This is what standing in the gap is all about. I leave you with this piece from Reinhard Bonnke’s FaceBook account:

The Holy Spirit lives within us, giving us the power to resist the devil and to overcome evil. We only have to ask him to help us. Think of it like this. You have electricity in your home. The house is wired and connected to the power station. If you arrive home on a dark night, there may be no light or heat in your house, but you know what to do: you press the switch, and power comes through. You have light and warmth. Living in the power of the Spirit is like turning the switch on. Everything else is ready. The gospel message is like the wires and cables that are connected to the power station, the cross of Christ. Lines of truth have already been laid. The power is there waiting. When you trust your life to Jesus and ask for God’s strength, His saving power flows to you, giving you light. The vital thing is to ask. Knowing all about a power station can still leave you in the cold and dark. You can touch the very walls of a nuclear power plant but still be freezing. When we ask God for His help to overcome temptation and to live our lives, then we are tapping into the resources of God, which are inexhaustible. God bless you.

Thanks for stopping by, y’all come back now.

Are You Ready?

America is at war. The enemy has infiltrated deep into the foundation of this beautiful country. I am not talking about Radical Islam, I am not talking about ISIS, I am talking about Satan himself. Deeply rooted into the culture of America, Satan has been slowly eroding America’s foundation just as he has already done in many other countries.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10, NIV)

You may think I’ve gone off the deep end with this proclamation. I have been a Christian for over 45 years. I was a late bloomer, not accepting Jesus as my lord and Savior until one cold dark November night in 1970 while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Since that time with destiny, I’ve learned:

Are you willing to be one of those called to ‘stand in the gap‘?

I am not sure how this series will develop in the next few days. I do know my motivator (the Holy Spirit) will guide me. And I would appreciate you praying for me as these posts continue. Thanks for stopping by, y’all come back now.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5 (NIV)
